For a body orbiting a much larger mass, circular speed depends on gravitational parameter and radius, escape speed is larger by a factor of square root of two at the same radius, and elliptical orbits vary speed with position. Specific orbital energy provides one compact way to classify circular, elliptical, parabolic, and hyperbolic trajectories.
