The sequence below comes from this topic's published material. Sections expand or contract with the subject instead of forcing every lesson into the same five-step mold.
Mechanism
Mechanism of Stellar Streams & Galactic Archaeology
As a satellite or cluster orbits the Milky Way, differential gravity removes stars preferentially near tidal boundaries. Stripped stars occupy slightly different orbital energies and spread along the progenitor orbit, producing a narrow stream whose detailed path responds to the Galaxy's mass distribution.
Evidence behind this section3 claims
Stellar streams are elongated structures of stars torn from globular clusters or dwarf galaxies by the Milky Way's tidal field.
Chapter review
Assessment still in review.
The chapter is published, but its assessment has not completed the verification and QA pipeline yet. It will appear here after publication.
