Structure
The structure of Aperture, Focal Length & Resolution
Light-gathering power scales with aperture area, proportional to diameter squared. Diffraction-limited angular resolution improves roughly as wavelength divided by aperture diameter. Focal ratio is focal length divided by aperture and influences image brightness per detector area for extended sources and optical design.
