The Proton–Proton Chain: Foundations
The proton-proton chain is the dominant hydrogen-fusion pathway in the Sun and other relatively low-mass main-sequence stars. The proton-proton chain explains how Sun-like stars remain luminous for billions of years, provides a direct neutrino probe of stellar cores, and establishes the physical basis of main-sequence stellar lifetimes.
