Compare tens first
For 63 and 47, six tens are more than four tens, so 63 is greater without needing to compare ones.
If tens are equal, compare ones
For 54 and 58, both have five tens. Compare four ones with eight ones; 4<8, so 54<58.
Equal numbers match in both places
72 and 72 have the same tens and same ones, so they are equal.
